It’s amazing how quickly a new garden can bed in and come to life! One of our clients kindly sent us some photos of her new garden at various stages throughout the year. They give a good insight into what you can expect in the first year of a new garden (or to be precise, 9 months in this case!)
As with most small gardens, the challenge was to fit everything in, whilst maintaining a good sense of space and flow. It’s a bit of an art form, and though I say it myself, I think we achieved our goal pretty well here! The garden features several intimate seating areas, and yet doesn’t feel at all cramped. We completed the hard landscaping of the garden just before Christmas last year, and then planted the garden up in Spring.

Generally speaking, when we create a new garden, we start off by being rather destructive…
… it can be slightly disconcerting for clients (as well as looking a mess!), but trust us – we do know what we’re doing!
Next it’s time for setting out and hard landscaping. At this point things start to look slightly more organised.
A new pergola, arches, lawn and patio show the garden really coming together. The breeze house was the only thing retained from the old garden.
The garden is now in a usable state – albeit devoid of plants!
Said plants arrive in the Spring – always a good time for planting up…
Here they’re set out ready for Jim, our soft landscaper to plant up. You can also see here one of the nice intimate seating areas.
Starting to take shape now! All planted up (and notice we pruned the trees too); the breeze house is almost in use and furniture is appearing.
As we get towards summer, the plants are growing nicely…
BBQ is located, furniture is in use – plus notice the new lighting on the wall, together with trellis and patio pots for added colour.
The garden is now starting to look lush and green…
