Client’s Brief and Katie’s Design Input:

The garden brief was all about making the most of the sunniest corner of the garden:

  1. The design will be focused around the garden’s aspect so that a new patio will be located in the bottom right corner to make the most of the sun.
  2. A pergola will be built above this patio to create more privacy and add height to the garden.
  3. Curves will be incorporated into the design to soften the look.
  4. A small patio will be installed outside the house, large enough for a bistro table as another seating option.
  5. New pathways will be designed to link the patios together.
  6. A dedicated space off the main patio for a water feature will be installed.
  7. An area of lawn will be central and visually link the garden.

To start with, lets have a look at this before and after slider to show the transformation that has taken place with the new design…

The photos here show the work that was needed before we started. As you can see, the garden had huge potential, although the patio was in a shady part of the garden. Some storage was needed as well as an update to the paving. The garden design lacked cohesiveness and was in need of a focal feature to draw the eye.

The Alda team worked hard for a couple of weeks in May to carry out the landscaping.  The new garden delivers on all the design elements, which work cohesively to create a neat and stylish design. The quality of the materials speak for themselves and elevate the whole garden, and as always, the team have skillfully and carefully implemented the design with superb attention to detail.

Why this Garden Works…

  • The new lawn stands out due to its curved outline dipping into the flower beds and skirting around the main patio.
  • The large pergola draws your eye to the bottom of the garden and adds an attractive feature and function in this area.
  • Beautiful clean cut ‘Vintage Honey’ limestone paving makes an impact, creating a feature of the pathways and patios.  All paving has been sourced from our supplier, Nigel Belcher in Hermitage.
  • A contemporary style fence with planed and bevelled edged timber slats provides an attractive screen for the shed.
